I visited Island dive center while on a cruise ship with my son this last week (March 2 2020) My son did his 1&2 open water certification with them. I can’t express enough how great these people are, From the contacts through emails to the one on one training my son received. All the people that work here are top notch. I will definitely be returning in the future. And Highly recommend them to anyone visiting Roatan! Thanks Guys for awesome experience.
I did my Open Water certification dives 1 and 2 here in January 2020 during a stop on a cruise. Our group was picked up by two vans outside the port area with no issues. Will was awesome to have as my dive leader and I couldn’t have asked for a better first two dives with him. He was thorough in reviewing the skills I learned in theory and the confined water dives prior to my trip, but also allowed for plenty of exploration during the two 1-hour dives. I would definitely dive with them again. My huge family of 26 (14 adults and 12 kids) went snorkelling during my dive and they really enjoyed it. They had a couple of guides to help them find creatures in the water. The only thing that could’ve been improved was that it was pretty hectic when we arrived in regards to paper work. It would’ve been great if we could’ve had the paperwork sent to us beforehand to have filled out and ready to go when we arrived... but that’s what you get for travelling in huge packs! The hotel on site is being built/renovated so the dive shop site is underwhelming but the drawings of what is to come look impressive and I think this would be a great place to stay for a scuba vacation. I can’t wait to dive in Roatan again!
All of the staff are great. Ava, Bill, and Stew were great dive masters and showed us some amazing spots. Barney at the West Bay shop was very helpful and quick to grab any equipment we needed. The boat captains were all friendly safe and professional. Great experience, great shop, great employees, and excellent customer service. I highly recommend this shop and we will definitely be back. Thanks!
The Best dive shop on the island, without exception. Small groups, super accommodating, friendly and well equipped. Bill Perkins has over 3000 dives on Roatan. His knowledge of the reefs, which he loves to share, is vast and deep, and his ability to spot marine life is simply super human. ViVi is on par with Bill in most every way, just maybe a little more laid back, which she supplements with her lion fish hunting prowess. She always keeps the dives interesting, if not exciting. Their boat pilots are always helpful and efficient. And Amanda in the office keeps it all running smoothly. This team does what they do so well because they love their work, and it shows. You cannot go wrong with Island Dive Center.
This is a fantastic shop with a diverse set of personalities. I highly recommend the shop. Be warned. Culture here is very open. They toss all sorts of jokes. Stewart has a strong personality. Think typical football coach. If you have issues with tough personalities then go with Bill. All of them are extremely professional when it comes to diving. They will make sure you have a safe and fun experience. Stewart is a wealth of knowledge. I personally loved both him and Bill. But given your preferences you may prefer one over the other. No matter what they behave like, they're all a bunch softies. You will not regret your time with them. Your can tell an establishment is great when everyone working is enjoying themselves but still professional at the same time. The one thing I would advise is that if Travis contacts you and offers you to stay at Seascape resort, know that it is NOT a 5 min walk away like he says. Tish, his wife, was great. Gave me a complimentary Thanksgiving dinner and helped me get to the shop. However, as amazing as she and her family were, I generally prefer to be in a more alive part of the city. At least some where I could walk to a restaurant or at least catch a Taxi (and somewhere the taxi drivers know to take me back). I was considering giving it 4 stars because I felt that was unfair of Travis. That being said, this is a review of the shop. The shop was all I wanted. I made friends of the employees and my fellow divers. And the hospitality of Tish and her family deserves 5 stars. But I can't recommend Seascape unless you want to be away from the busy spots (in which case it's great) and get a scooter.
